Titanic: Mr. John Irwin Flynn Mr John Irwin Flynn, 36, from Brooklyn, New York, was a buyer with the firm of Gimbel Brothers. He boarded the Titanic at Southampton as a first class passenger. He shared cabin E-25 with James McGough. Flynn was rescued in Lifeboat 5, along with Mr. Edward P. Calderhead and Mr.Spencer Silverthorne who signed the menu.

Lifeboat 5 (capacity 65 persons) was launched from the starboard side at 12.55am under the command of Third Officer Herbert Pitman. It contained 35 or 36 people. Lifeboat 5 arrived at the Carpathia at about 5.10 on the morning of April 15th 1912.
